MATCHUP EDGE

The Graveyard: 8 "edges" we tested. Most of it died.

Before we sold a tool, we tried to find the free money everyone talks about. Each thesis below was pre-registered, tested against real market data with real statistics, and killed in writing. This page is why Matchup Edge sells restraint instead of picks — and why you should distrust anyone who won't publish their nulls.

METHODOLOGY — every test: pre-registered thesis · de-correlated events · 2–3 standard-error bar · net of realistic spread, fees, and slippage at executable depth · look-ahead-free replays. Conclusions independently cross-checked against professional trading references. Full clean write-ups ship to Founding Sharp members; the flagship informed-flow report publishes free this week.
01Oracle LagDEAD

"Crypto markets resolve on an oracle — trade faster than it updates."

Killed on day zero: no exploitable gap survives at executable prices. The books re-price before you do.

02NegRisk / Consistency ArbitrageDEAD

"Multi-outcome baskets that sum over $1 — sell the overround, free money."

Complete baskets — the only ones you can actually route — never priced through fees at real depth. The "arb" screenshots you've seen are partial baskets or unroutable legs.

03Crypto Strike MispricingDEAD

"Strike ladders misprice versus spot volatility."

Implied distributions tracked market-standard vol closely enough that nothing cleared costs. The ladder is boring. Boring means efficient.

04Favorite-Longshot BiasDEAD

"Longshots are systematically overpriced — fade every 5¢ contract."

The calibration curve holds up net of spread on the liquid core. The bias exists in textbooks; the toll booth eats it in practice.

05Late-Move ReversionDEAD

"Sharp moves before resolution overshoot — fade them."

Late moves are mostly information, not noise. Fading them is paying to stand in front of people who know something.

06Mechanical Pattern MiningDEAD

"Mine resolved markets for repeatable price patterns."

A powered null across 1,722 resolved markets: the liquid core is liquid because it's efficient. No mechanical rule survived out-of-sample.

07Last-Mile ThetaDEAD

"Buy 97¢ near-certainties, harvest the final cents."

The final cents are rent for resolution risk, and spread plus fees eats the carry. One oracle surprise erases months of pennies.

08On-Chain Informed FlowDEAD

"Copy the wallets that win — follow the smart money."

Our largest study: 176,000 trades, look-ahead-free. No followable wallet cohort beat costs. The whales you can see are not the edge you think.

Eight hyped edges. Eight funerals. The conclusion isn't "never trade" — it's that in an efficient market, the durable edge is refusing to pay tolls you can see: wide spreads, thin books, stale quotes, oversized positions. That's the screen we built.
